Price Increases

At the beginning of June 2023 the South African Sugar Association implemented a 14% increase in the price of sugar nationwide. This is not great news for our industry. Yet we feel that it is only fair to warn our loyal customers of the ripple effects to come. 

Major wholesale distributors have already increased sugar prices, and between now and the end of July, the prices of sugar, fondant, chocolate, cake mixes, toppings and spreads will inflate between 10 and 14% across the country. Cake boards and boxes have also been increased by 12%.

At Baker's we have stocked up in order to keep prices stable for as long as possible. However, within the next two weeks, once our stock has been depleted, we will have no choice but to increase the price of sugar. Fondant prices will increase towards the end of July as will cake mixes and chocolate as new stock arrives. We advise customers to purchase sugar-containing items before our increases take effect.

We understand that this will have a negative impact on your operations. We will strive, as always, to pass any savings we get from bulk-buying and supplier negotiations to our customers as well as attempt to restructure our operations and margins where possible and appropriate.
