Piping Gel

Description:

This homemade Piping Gel is so simple, quick and easy to make, you will never have to go without it ever again. Piping Gel has become an important aspect of cake decorating from glue o sticking flowers. In this post, I share with you two recipes, one with Gelatine, and a vegetarian one with lots of possibilities.

Homemade Piping Gel with Gelatine

Ingredients:

2             Tbsp Gelatine

2             Tbsp Water

2             Cups (470ml) Light Corn Syrup

                Clear Vanilla or Almond Extract

Method:

  1. Dissolve Gelatine in the Water for 2 minutes.
  2. Place in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds or in a double boiler and melt the Gelatine
  3. Place the Corn Syrup and Extract in a saucepan over low heat. Once the Corn Syrup is hot, add in the Gelatine mixture.
  4. Stir well to combine
  5. That’s it, your piping Gel is ready.
  6. The Gel will thicken as it sits.

Homemade Piping Gel with Corn Starch

Ingredients:

⅓             Cup (80ml) White Granulated Sugar

1             Tbsp Corn Starch / Cornflour

¼             Cup (4 Tbsp) Lemon Juice

¼             Cup (4 Tbsp) Water

Method:

  1. Dissolve the Corn Starch in half the Water.
  2. Place the Sugar and remaining water on low heat and stir until all the Sugar has dissolved.
  3. Add the Lemon Juice, and Corn Starch mixture.
  4. Stir until thick and opaque.
  5. The Corn Flour should cook until it becomes opaque.
  6. Switch off the heat.
  7. Store in a glass jar or container.
  8. Once cooled use as desired.
  9. If necessary, add hot water to bring to the right consistency.
