Description
White sesame seeds are small oil-rich seeds harvested from the sesame plant, one of the oldest cultivated crops believed to have originated in Africa and parts of Asia. These pale seeds have a mild, nutty flavour and a delicate crunch that makes them a favourite ingredient in both baking and cooking.
In baking they are commonly sprinkled over breads, burger buns, bagels, crackers and savoury pastries, adding texture and visual appeal. They are also widely used in confectionery, brittle, sesame snaps, halva and dessert toppings, and can be toasted to deepen their flavour. Outside the bakery they appear in salads, stir-fries, spice blends and tahini, the sesame paste used in many Middle Eastern dishes.
