Description
Food grade glycerine is a clear odourless viscous liquid derived from plant oils such as soybean palm or coconut oil through the process of hydrolysis or saponification. It is a sugar alcohol with mild sweetness and strong moisture retaining properties which makes it useful in a wide range of food cosmetic pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
In food production glycerine is used as a humectant sweetener and texture stabiliser. It helps retain moisture in baked goods fondant icing confectionery energy bars and dried fruit products and can improve softness and shelf life. In confectionery and cake decorating it is often added to fondant and icing to maintain flexibility and prevent drying.
Outside of food uses glycerine is widely used in cosmetics skincare and personal care products such as lotions soaps toothpaste and hair products where it acts as a moisturiser and skin conditioning agent. It is also used in pharmaceuticals for syrups capsules and medical formulations as well as in industrial applications including antifreeze solutions e liquid production and as a solvent in certain chemical processes. Store in a sealed container in a cool dry place to maintain product quality.
